On Saturday, Google Developers Group (GDG) Islamabad hosted International Women Techmakers conference at Telenor 345 HQ in collaboration with SAP Global and Telenor Pakistan. The whole day event focused on different talks paired with Google’s signature event Cloud Study Jam in which participants study through collaborative learning focusing on the fundamental tools and capabilities of Google Cloud.
The event started off with a Keynote Address by Muhammad Bin Masood who is currently the Manager of GDG Islamabad. He emphasized that Women Techmakers is one of the events which highlights the success stories of women who are creating a change in society by challenging the status quo. His address was followed by a talk by Telenor’s Chief Digital and Strategy Officer Sardar Abubakr in which he highlighted that the current participation of women in tech stands at just 14% and events like Women Techmakers will encourage women to acquire tech-based education and skills. SAP Global’s Chief of Data Office Saif Arshad also discussed opportunities at his organization and said that an investment in women is an investment in us all.
On the parallel of these keynote talks, Cloud Study Jam was being conducted in a work zone area. Afterwards, the session went on towards Lightning talks which shared the journeys of Asna Javed, Lead Developer IBM Pakistan, Azka Ather, Team Lead – AUJ Formula Student, and Umair Khurshid, 4o1 Bakers. The event then proceeded towards a panel discussion and afterwards ambassadors of Women Techmakers were announced.
There was a huge turnout from developers, entrepreneurs, students and others alike for the event and showed great enthusiasm. The #IamRemarkable workshop conducted by Huma Mobin from BBDO Pakistan featured an amusing activity where students and professionals alike got the opportunity to interact and engage with each other. The workshop brought forward the exceptional, inspirational stories of the boss ladies out there who are juggling their families and career impeccably.
The event concluded with an address from Telenor Pakistan’s Manager Corporate Innovation Madiha Parvez who thanked all the participants for attending and congratulated GDG on conducting a successful event.
